English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Course Overview

Miami Coral Park Adult Education Center offers an ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) program with classes designed to fit various levels of proficiency. Courses will help speakers of any level grow in their ability to be successful workers, citizens, and prospering members of the community through greater mastery of the English language.

 

Availability of Classes

Classes available at several times of the day give the flexibility to fit learning into busy lifestyles.

  • Employment
  • Consumer Education
  • Health and Nutrition
  • Transportation and Travel
  • Safety and Security

Course Placement

Course placement is determined by the results of the CASAS test, a state-approved assessment instrument taken before entering the program. CASAS evaluates language proficiency with questions on listening and reading comprehension.  This assessment process identifies where the student will begin in the six language levels: 

  • Foundations
  • Low Beginning
  • High Beginning
  • Low Intermediate
  • High Intermediate
  • Advanced

Program Completion

Students finish the ESOL program when they test successfully out of the Advanced level. There is further English training beyond the ESOL program in classes focusing on:

  • Academics to Adult College & Career Readiness
